CHANEL'S VICE HEELS PACK HEAT

Unsurprisingly, Madonna caught some heat for wearing Chanel’s gun heel shoes to the NYC screening of her film “Filth and Wisdom” in which the music icon made her directorial debut.

Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld was inspired to create the gun toting stilts by an image of a gun he saw & gave to Chanel’s shoe designer Laurence Decade, asking him to make the heat-packing shoes.

Lagerfeld’s killer heels seem to be mocking women for their love-hate relationship with heels with the creation of the “Miami Vice” shoes.

The Vice heels debuted at the Chanel resort presentation & are lethally yours when they hit the stores this month.

WALK IN OPRAH'S SHOES

Walking in Oprah's shoes has never been more likely - she's cleaning out her walk-in!

According to ABC Chicago, Oprah Winfrey is auctioning 150 items on eBay, with the funds raised going to Winfrey's school in South Africa.

ABC says; Oprah loves shoes-- and there will be plenty to choose in the size 10 range from Prada and Jimmy Choo to Ralph Lauren. The Olympic Chicago 2016 delegate jacket she wore to Copenhagen is up for bid. And, there will also be designer purses.

"Bags are really great. For a while Oprah was collecting a lot of small bags, really beautiful bags. Here we have Bottega Veneta, from Chanel. A lot of people give Oprah things they make but she's really come to the conclusion small bags don't work for her anymore because she carries a big tote. She loves stylish shoes because on the show she actually just carries them onto the set," said Adam Glasman, creative director, "O" Magazine.

If you’re a size 10 or you just happen to want to own one of Oprah’s cast offs - mark your calendars: The auction starts March 1st and runs through March 11th on eBay.

BILLIE JEAN DISCO SHOE - HUH?

There are moments when we all think designers have pushed the boundaries as far as they can go & then there are the novices, who floor us every time.

I guess all things Michael Jackson eventually had to be experimented with by die-hard fans & those with an abundance of time of their hands – enter the Billie Jean Disco Shoe.

Jackson’s song "Billie Jean" was considered one of the most revolutionary songs in history and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 1989.

The shoes are replicas of the shoes worn in Billie Jean’s video in which MJ walks on floor tiles that light up. These shoes (pictured) actually come with light up tiles attached to them, allowing you to take the light up squares with you wherever you are walking.

Every time you put your foot down the tile lights up thanks to a pressure sensor built into the tiles & the LED’s being powered by a pocket sized battery pack – definitely ranking this as the kookiest innovation I have ever seen.

If you’d like to make your own, however, details can be found here.

WINEHOUSE SPENDS £10,000 ON SHOES IN AN AFTERNOON

‘Former’ drug addict & self sabotaging entertainer, Amy Winehouse, has sparked concern amongst family & friends seemingly replacing her addiction to drugs with a new habit.

Her father Mitch Winehouse said: “Amy has blown stupid amounts on shoes, she’s replaced her drug addiction with a shopping addiction. She bought 20 pairs of designer shoes in one afternoon.

“I returned them all to Selfridges. She’d never wear them, she has two rooms full of un-opened, unworn shoes, it’s ridiculous, such a waste.”

Mitch has been very vocal about his dislike of Amy’s ex-husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, and with rumours circulating the couple are set to re-marry, he admits he “drives himself sick” with worry about the situation, but knows the singer won’t listen to him.

He told The Daily Star: “I hate it when people compare Amy and Blake to Romeo and Juliet. They might love each other uncontrollably. But Romeo and Juliet both ended up dead.

"I drive myself sick worrying about it. However, Amy will do what she thinks best.”

While the circumstances aren’t great, you have to envy being able to splash out £10,000 on designer shoes in one afternoon.

NYC FASHION WEEK - SHOES TO DIE FOR

Oh dear, the shoes that came out of New York Fashion Week are to die for.

The girls from Glamour summed it up best with their take, "There was a moment during Phillip Lim's fall 2010 runway show when the only accessory I required was a paper bag to breathe into--I was that obsessed with the Christian Louboutin shoes he sent down his runway".

While these Louboutin's most definitely take out the gong, there were a few other special stilts to make an appearance. Salivate away!

Top 3; Christian Louboutin for Phillip Lim, Halston, T-strap Carolina Herrera, Nicholas Kirkwood at Rodarte(the heels light up!) & Ralph Lauren Fur-trimmed ankle boots.

GERMAN SHOE FETISHIST SENTENCED TO 4YRS

A little perplexing but an unemployed German man has been sent to a secure psychiatric unit after attacking 7 women & stealing their high-heeled shoes to fuel his apparent fetish.

The 27-year-old, who was not named, was sentenced to four years & nine months behind bars & convicted of seven counts of theft & four of causing bodily harm, Bonn court spokesman Matthias Nordmeyer told AFP.

"He will have to stay (in the secure unit) until it is determined that he no longer poses a danger," he said.

The man would sneak up behind his victims in Bonn & nearby Cologne in 2008 & 2009, push them to the ground & flee with their shoes, police said.

He was arrested in July 2009.

The perils when shoe addict meets shoe fetishist evident yet again...

OLYMPIC SLIP UP WITH FASHION POLICE

The minute the Swiss figure skating pairs team appeared rinkside fashion police knew they’d found yet another culprit.

The fashion "Don’ts" just keep coming at Vancouver's Winter Olympic Games.

Not sure if Swiss duo Antoine Dorsaz & Anais Morandare (above & left) are devastated by how ridiculous they look on camera in their Heidi-Meets-Burberry costumes or their slip up performance on the ice, but wow, this is a shocker.

Three-time US national champion Johnny Weir (left) has shown us a string of poor taste that would be better suited to a Mardi-Gras float than the Winter Olympics. Weir caused quite the fracas before the Games with his pro fur stance. "You know, animals wear fur coats, so I don't see any reason why I can't," he said. "It's discrimination, I think."

Nine MSN reports that poor Johnny has since been taking some mandatory time out in the naughty corner at the athlete's village in Vancouver, with the skating star sighting "death threats" from animal rights activists — "crazy fur people," as he describes them — restricting him to the confines of communal living. As if that pink & black number shouldn’t have done that already.

Thank goodness they’re constrained to skates – I’d hate to see what they’d put on their feet if given the choice…

WHAT DO BLAKE, MARILYN & ANNE HAVE IN COMMON?

What do Blake Lively, Marilyn Monroe & Anne Hathaway have in common, besides fame? They’re Delman girls.

While the New York based luxury label doesn’t attract the media hype other labels do, the brand was synonymous with footwear innovation in the 1940s and 1950s.

Established by Herman Delman in 1918, Delman, one of the oldest salon footwear brands, designs for the sophisticated, discerning woman who wants to be effortlessly chic.

As Herman Delman himself said, "Delman means a shoe stylized in sophisticated taste - not garish, not over-conservative - a thoroughly wearable shoe."

The 91-year-old company will be the subject of an exhibit, running from March 9th – April 10th at the Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology NY, “Scandal Sandals & Lady Slippers: A History of Delman Shoes.”

The exhibit, curated by some of the school’s graduate students, is intended to show their stylish history through some 50 pairs of shoes in addition to print advertisements, newsreel footage & other design illustrations dating from 1926 through 2007.

You can find Delman in the US department stores; Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman & Saks Fifth Avenue – as well as couture salon specialty shops throughout the United States & abroad.

For more information go to Delman Online.

TO LOAN OR NOT TO LOAN?

Loaning anything is shrouded by a minefield of issues, from books to money or your car, it can be a tough call and the decision to do so is dependant on the Loanee as much as the Loaner.

Whether the appeal to loan an item comes from family or friends, the consequences when things go wrong can be catastrophic.

Having not had a sister and instead being blessed with a brother, I am unfamiliar with the perils of loaning to immediate family when it comes to items of the wardrobe nature. Tales from those who have walked this road are almost disastrous in nature and have included outcomes from total loss of the loaned item to having it mildly destroyed.

Reflecting on my own possessions, I can say without a hint of doubt that I would most certainly loan my car before my Manolos. If the car gets a scratch on it, then off to the bump shop, but if you mark my Manolo Blahnik Sedaberys there would be tears, a possible tantrum, and potential friendship exile.

The decision to loan a shoe should be judged on a vast category of factors. To whom are you loaning the shoe, where they would be wearing it and an informed supposition about how their own shoes are treated, would all factor into this intricate equation.

As much as I love some of my girlfriends, to loan the one who throws her shoes into the bottom of her wardrobe at nights end a pair of my prized shoe couture would be arbitrary tomfoolery I love her way too much to not speak to her again. Ever.

Loan websites promising gently used Gucci or Louboutin’s for a weekly or monthly fee, a mere fraction of the retail price, are becoming increasingly popular as high-end fashion becomes more spellbinding.

With Melbourne based Love Me & Leave Me website, the borrower can ask for a quote on purchasing the ‘gently used’ item if they find it difficult to part with once the rental period is up. Can you loan a shoe worn by an anonymous foot?

I’m not quite sure I am capable of that, but I love that the option is there. Handbags, sure, shoes – not my gig.

Love to hear your shoe loaning stories if you have any!

NOTHING SAYS 'I LOVE YOU' LIKE A SNEAKER?

Apparently for the sneaker loving folk nothing quite says ‘I love you’ like a St Valentine’s Day tribute kick.

Nike is leading the charge in 2010 with 14 different designs & styles to choose from, followed closely by Adidas who are serving up an apparel line as well. If you’ve a passion for sneaker fashion than I guess this is fabulous news.

Reebok & Supra have also jumped onboard with Supra’s Skytop ‘Heartbreaker’ described as ‘the slickest Valentine’s Day offering – a simple, classy ruby-red slipper for your lady love.’

I have to tell you gents, if you’re coming home with anything other than Choos or Manolos in ruby red you may need those running shoes for yourself!

TRAGIC LOSS - ALEXANDER McQUEEN

The British fashion industry has lost one of its brightest stars with the apparent suicide of Alexander McQueen, aged 40.

McQueen’s creations adorned celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Rihanna & Lady Gaga & was known for his flamboyant & outrageous styles.

The designer had been grieving over the death of his mother, Joyce, who died on February 2 & was due to attend her funeral today.

The loss of one of the most commercially successful and respected British designers ahead of next week’s London Fashion Week is exceptionally sad. The UK’s The Times reports friends as saying that he had been under pressure to complete his autumn/winter women’s wear collection for next month’s launch in Paris. One of his lines, McQ, was due to be shown at New York Fashion Week yesterday but was cancelled. The designer was also known to be upset that a recent relationship had ended.

McQueen recently described the suicide of his mentor — the style icon Isabella Blow — as “the most important thing he had learnt in fashion”. During a newspaper interview conducted by his mother, McQueen was asked what was his most terrifying fear. He replied: “Dying before you.”

McQueen had an estimated £20 million fortune in 2006 & was renowned in the fashion industry for his fragile temperament.

Shoppers passing McQueen’s shop in Old Bond Street, Mayfair UK, laid flowers and a candle outside. The store closed soon after the news of his apparent suicide. A spokeswoman said that it was likely to remain closed in the coming days, as would McQueen’s other stores around the world.

The company’s website states: “On behalf of Lee McQueen’s family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home.

“At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee’s family.”

RIP Alexander McQueen, you were an amazing talent.

CONNOLLY UNLIKELY SHOE ADDICT

Unlikely shoe addict, comedian Billy Connolly, has proclaimed he is so into his shoes he owns more than 100 pairs and misses them when he’s on holiday.

“I miss my shoes when I’m away because shoes are one of those things you don’t take many away with you. They’re cumbersome and heavy, so maybe you’ll take two pairs of shoes and sneakers and some sandals. But when I’m away I think, ‘I’ve got lots of shoes.’”

Billy is so hooked on footwear he even gets misty-eyed over one pair – despite losing them two decades ago.

He said: “They were patent leather brogues with a leopard skin bit and they were to die for.

“The leather was an oily, sort of change-colour thing, it was fabric and fur and regarded as pretty bad taste by most people. “I adored them but someone stole them from my house when there was a party. That must have been 20 years ago and I still think about them.”

The comic even has a joke about shoes in his routine.“Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? He’s a mile away and you’ve got his shoes!”

You've got to admire his dedication.

THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR...

I'm not quite sure what it is about gumboots that makes me feel they are a necessity, I just know that for some reason I have to have them and not just one pair, I'd like a few!

This is not a new compulsion; it has been with me for a while. It's one of those things that pops into your head every now and then but is cast aside as a whim that will surely weaken with time. You see, I don't actually need them for any real purpose; I would just like to have them.

There is something oddly enthralling about a designer boot that can be worn in almost any repugnant weather condition and returned to its original pristine state with nothing more than a baby wipe or a wet cloth.

While scoping out high-end boutiques in Hawaii on a recent shopping vacation I came across the Burberry contribution and threw out the line of possibility to my shopping counterpart to gain some feedback on the potential procurement of such fabulous specimens. I am in search of validation or justification not permission but it doesn't go well. The rebuke being something along the line of 'That is ridiculous, where the heck would you wear them?’

As extraneous as this question is, I humour them with possibilities. All true shoe addicts know it's not about where you will wear them, it's about having them in your portfolio should the appropriate circumstance present itself.

Following several scoffs and a head shake the purchase is muted, for the moment, it is 1 / Love with them in front and I have some ground to regain.

You see, although I travel to our southern regions regularly, fundamentally I spend the majority of my time in Queensland and up until recently we haven’t had a scrap of rain. I don't live on a property that would require them and I most certainly don't have to scarper out to the front lawn in the snow. All flawlessly valid reasons for the procurement of such an item.

On the return flight all I can think about is those wretched gumboots. Preposterous if you knew how much clothing miraculously found its way into my suitcase. I should be well and truly content with my acquisitions over the past week but something is missing.

I begin to dig deeper in a desperate attempt to rationalize my superfluous thoughts. It is merely that they were the only thing I didn't purchase and I am merely replicating the poor behaviour of a small child that is refused a treat at the supermarket?

Comfort with style is a much sought after but rarely found commodity. Let's face it; comfort is usually secondary when the stilt is to-die-for hot. We've all met those women who scan the length of our leg from the bottom of our mini shift to the tip of our fabulous footwear of choice only to exclaim at top volume 'oh, they can't be comfortable'.

As ludicrous as the statement is, the last proclamation any one of us wants to make is to apologize for the lack of glamour on the end of our feet by justifying it as 'comfortable'.

A few short weeks following plane touchdown I find myself in Melbourne for a whirlwind visit to the Polo. Wheels down at the Airport reveal a drizzly and windy Melbourne day. Mentally hi-5'ing myself for the savvy choice of packing wedges so as not to fall through the grass, I am pleased to have gone for the cream and gold dress I will glam up with for the after party by adding new Louis Vuitton cream canvas LOVE heels.

I can’t help but think what would have been perfect for today? Those Burberry gumboots. Damn justifying the purchase to myself or anyone else, why didn’t I listen to my inner shoe connoisseur? They would have been stylish, chic and most importantly they would have totally preserved my pedicure for those canvas peeps later in the day.

A matter of weeks later, Queensland had the largest deluge of rain in ten years and summer strappy sandals seemed an intolerable choice.

Cheers of joy erupt from my little girl’s room as she gleefully slides on her pink leopard print gumboots to jump in puddles on the way to school. With the drop off traffic too much to cope with in this weather, much to the delight of my daughter, we walk in the rain. Ten puddles, a few hellos to other mothers and a devastatingly soggy pair of Chloe ballet flats later and I am back in my office to work. Damn gumboots.

I can't take it anymore. Feverishly clicking the keys of my laptop and asking Google to do the walking, the Burberry gumboots are on their way.

Of course, the day they arrive is a scorching 36 degrees and the mere thought of anything remotely plastic near the feet is enough to make you pass out, but rest assured Fox weather says it will rain for days towards the end of the week.

Rainy day after rainy day, my new friends and I have helped each other through some precarious situations. Trudging to do the groceries or wearing them to a meeting in the rain, making way for the stiletto swap on arrival, I thought we had been through it all.

Then fate steps in and hands me the trump card.

My parents are buying a property. I am so excited I can hardly contain myself. A rural retreat sounds like a nice getaway. The cool weather in winter would provide a lovely atmosphere for such a place. I am not crazy about snakes and much prefer the ones locked in a fish tank at my friend's house than finding them slithering around in the grass, but I think I can do this. Sounds just about perfect.

Besides, I will most definitely need at least two more pairs of gumboots for this one!
